LTPN First Aid Course
We are thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity for all Learn to Paddle Now members to enhance their safety and first aid skills, specifically tailored for paddlers.
Directions Health, led by experienced First Aid Nurse Deanna Stratford, is offering an exclusive First Aid course designed to address the unique accidents and emergencies that can occur in paddling and racing environments.
Course Highlights:
Tailored Content: The course focuses on the specific injuries and emergencies that paddlers may encounter, ensuring you are well-prepared for any situation on the water.
On-Water Scenarios & Rescue Training: For those interested, the course includes practical on-water scenarios and rescue techniques to provide hands-on experience.
Affordable Pricing: Prices are heavily discounted to make it accessible for as many members as possible to learn these essential skills.
Convenient Location: The course will be held at LTPN at 237 Spit Road, Mosman, making it easy and convenient to attend.
Certification: Participants will receive a certificate upon completion, recognizing their new skills and knowledge.
Recently, the Sutherland Shire Canoe Club hosted this course, the skills learned were put into action when a junior paddler experienced hypothermia during a recent marathon event. Thanks to the training, the situation was managed effectively, highlighting the importance of these skills.

Attendance at the pre-race Paddler Safety Briefing (7:50am) is mandatory.
The race results and medals along with the series prizes and Club Trophy will be presented after the race.

8:25am Wave 1 – Long Course: Female 50+ and older; Male 60+ and older; All Juniors, All OC1 & 2, and Sea Kayaks
8:35am Wave 2 – Long Course: Female Open & 40+; Male Open, 40+ & 50+; All Doubles
8:38am Wave 3 – Short Course: All craft, all ages (including SUP)
Race Numbers
From 2023, the HR Series will no longer use race number stickers.
Old HR race stickers should be removed from your craft prior to competing in the current Series.
Paddlers will receive a Race Number Card at check-in for use at that race only.
The Race Number Card should be firmly affixed to the top surface at the rear of your craft. It must be easily visible to the Timekeepers and Race Officials.
Paddlers need to supply their own race number holder.
Paddlers MUST RETURN the Race Number Card as soon as they complete the race to the registration desk.

Harbour Series Race 3 - The JB Run

NOTE: This is an exposed water course. Jervis Bay is 102 square km so you may encounter large swells and reasonable winds. We will choose the safest course on the day but in keeping with MAKAI tradition, the course may be challenging. You should anticipate some kind of chop during the race.
Course Options
The direction of the race will depend on weather conditions, the final course will be explained at the race briefing.
Long course – 2 laps = 14km
Short course – 1 lap = 7km
NB: SUP’s may only enter the Short Course

7 to 8am Race Check-In

8:55am Wave 2 – Long Course: Female Open & 40+; Male Open, 40+ & 50+; All Doubles
9:00am Wave 3 – Short Course: All craft, all ages (including SUP)
The Race Starter will:
Call the paddlers in the wave to make their way towards the start line
Raise a green flag giving the paddlers in that wave a 1-minute warning to come up to (but not cross) the start line
Signal race start by the dropping of the green flag and a single blast of an air horn.
Race Finishes
The finish line, which may be unique to each course, will be explained in the race briefing notes. All paddlers must cross between the finish line chequered buoys in order to have their time recorded.
Any paddler who withdraws from a race after the start and exits the course without finishing (DNF) must inform the Timekeepers or Race Officials at the race finish line, and must not pass through the finish gate.

Collect boat numbers from paddler check-in.

Bridge to Beach
Sydney Harbour! Is there a better place in the world to take on a fundraising challenge?
